Becoming a Beaver
Our Beaver section is open to anyone aged 5½-8 years. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 18:00hrs to 19:15hrs.
When you join Beavers, you’ll be introduced to lots of new activities, people and things. Here’s everything you need to know.
We play lots of games and do FUN activities involving skills they will need later and building self-awareness and teamwork. Some of these include; The Green Cross Code, Tying up their shoelaces, Science and Nature, and Arts and Craft and cooking.
At 4th Streatham, our group is made up of four Sections; Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers before the children transition into young leader roles. Their age reflects what group they belong to and Beavers is the first section they will encounter. Each section carries out age-appropriate activities and opportunities earning badges, taking part in sleepovers and many outdoor activities
Badges & Awards
Completing awards challenges you to do more, learn more and be more. See what’s on offer and start your journey to the top.

Uniform and Badge Placement
Our uniform consists of a Navy blue sweatshirt (as we are a Sea Scout group, a purple neckerchief and a coloured woggle that determines what Watch you belong to as well as a smart cap. It will be your responsibility to look after it.
If you moved up from Beavers, you will already have started collecting badges and there will be plenty more!
Each badge type has a special place on the jumper, find out where they go below.

Beaver Promise
As a values based movement we all make the ‘The Promise’ an oath that helps us to be our best

Learn the Lingo
- Woggle
- this is a device used to loosely secure the scarf around the neck to a Beaver Colony
- Necker
- this is the scarf that your child will wear when in uniform
- Lodges
- when at their weekly meeting, your child may be split into smaller groups, to carry out activities and tasks together. These smaller groups are referred to as Lodges in Scouting
- The Beaver Scout Promise
- each Section has a Promise which is a simple way to help young people (and adults) keep the Fundamentals of Scouting in mind. The Promise is the commitment made by all Members as they join Scouting
Beaver Leaders
All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible.
Some lead the Colony week in and week out while others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills. No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms.
Third Block
Moving up to Cubs
Eventually, it’ll be time to say farewell to Beavers and embrace your next big adventure.
