The 4th Streatham was started up on the 19th May 1913. It started off as a land scout group and ran that way for a number of years until a young scout named Ray asked if he could open up a sea scout patrol within the patrol systems. This seemed like a great idea, and before they knew it, all the patrols where sea scouts, and the group moved over to becoming a full sea scout group in 1943.

In 1919 Princess Marie Louise (Granddaughter to Queen Victoria) visited Streatham, she was met by a group of scouts from the 4th Streatham, who performed a Guard of Honour for her. She was so impressed with them that she said from that day on we would be know as “Her Own”. And ever since then we have been know as “Princess Marie Loiuse’s Own”. The group has also named their home county gig “Marie Louise”.

The group used to take part in soap box car racing, and designed the first car that was peddled laying down, which gave them greater strength, and more speed. That year they won all the races and all the trophies!!

You can read the full history of the group then why not order your own copy of Sea Scouting: A History, 1909-2009 written by one of our leaders “Flags” (Roy Masini).
